Sports massage
How does it work?
It is a deep form of soft tissue mobilization. It can be applied in a sporting and non-sporting context. Sports massage involves a wide range of techniques that include effleurage, kneading, wringing, hacking and trigger pointing. For general relaxation of the muscular skeletal system as well as being directed towards any problem areas, helps relieve muscular tension, break down adhesion's, mobilize soft tissues and reduce pain.
The benefits have been reported to be the following : Increased joint range of motion (ROM), increased flexibility, decreased muscle tension, decreased neurological excitability (nerves more relaxed), decreased muscle spasms, increased sense of well-being, decreased anxiety and improved mood, better sleep.
Also it could increase blood flow, increase elimination of exercise waste products (lactic acid), decrease chance of injury, decrease recovery time between workouts.
How many sessions are required?
If you're training for competing one massage weekly or two monthly. If you want to get the benefits but don't work out often one session a month is indicated.
Is it painful?
it's not a painful massage, some discomfort may be felt
